Getting to Quarry Lake

You can easily reach Quarry Lake from downtown Canmore. This place is easily accessible by bike from anywhere in Canmore. If you are going by car then this beautiful lake can be reached in less than five minutes from Downtown Canmore. The Local Route 12 Bus runs from Downtown Canmore to Quarry Lake and other tourist hotspots. You can avail of this bus service every Friday to Sunday during summer months. If you don’t mind walking then you can park your vehicle for free at Bow Bridge River or Riverside Park and walk up to the Lake.

Can you enter Quarry Lake for free?

Yes, you can visit the lake without having to pay any entrance fee. All you need to pay is the parking fee. The later was introduced during pandemic to manage the excessive footfall of visitors.

What is the parking fee at Quarry Lake?

You won’t face any parking troubles at the lake during weekdays. But it becomes very difficult to get a spot on the weekend and other holidays. Parking is free up to 3 hours for Canmore residents with a registered car. However, others have to bear steep parking fees of $10 for 2 hours during the peak season, $2.50 per hour during low season.

Can you enjoy swimming in Lake?

Quarry Lake remains frozen throughout the year. You can jump right in for a cold dip. But if you are in a mood to swim then it’s recommended to wear a wet suit. This can keep you warm.

What is the depth of the Lake?

Some areas of Lake are around 100 meters deep. Thus it’s advisable to exercise caution while swimming here. You can borrow a life jacket for swimming without ant safety concerns.

Are there any hikes around Lake?

Yes, Quarry Lake provides 5km long trails which are ideal for hiking and walking enthusiasts. Some popular Quarry Lake trails are the 1.2km Canmore Creek to Quarry Lake trail, & 3.1km Quarry Lake to Red Commuter trail.

Can you take your dogs to the Lake?

It’s not allowed to take your pawsome companions to the Lake. However, dog parents can take their pets along to the off-leash area next to the parking lot.

Can you enjoy a picnic at Lake?

You will find picnic benches lining both the sides of the Lake. While there are no built-in barbeques, you can bring a gas stove of your own.

Are there bathrooms at Lake?

You can reach the bathrooms at Quarry Lake through a five-minute walk from the parking spot. Another park is located near the off-leash dog park.

Can you do paddleboarding at Lake?

This beautiful man made lake offers excellent opportunities to kayak and stand-up paddleboard. However, you won’t find any rental shop. Thus it’s best to carry your own non-motorized watercraft.
