No More Personal Cars
In 2023, Parks Canada decided that personal cars cannot go to Moraine Lake anymore. Now, you have to take a shuttle, hike, or join a tour.
How to reach Moraine Lake
The easiest way to see the lake is by taking the Parks Canada Moraine Lake Shuttle. Further, this shuttle runs from June 1 to October 14, 2024. Moreover, make sure to book your spot early on the Parks Canada website. They also release some last-minute seats two days before the trip at 8 am MST.
Parking Location
The Park and Ride is at Lake Louise Ski Resort. Moreover, from here, you can catch the shuttle that takes you straight to Moraine Lake.

Fun Activities at Moraine Lake
- Hike the Rockpile Trail: Reach the top for amazing views of the lake.
- Rent a Canoe: You can rent a canoe starting at $140 CAD plus tax for an hour. It fits up to three people.

Seeing Sunrise at Moraine Lake
Sunrise is a magical time at this beautiful Lake. Moreover, if you want to see it, consider booking a sunrise shuttle or tour. Further, Parks Canada now offers an early Alpine Start shuttle at 4 am and 5 am from the Lake Louise parking lot.
Public Transit Options
- Route 8X: The route connects Banff to Lake Louise. You’ll need a Super Pass to use the Lake Connector bus to Moraine Lake.
- Route 10: A direct bus from Banff to Moraine Lake that only runs in the fall. Reservations are recommended.
Bringing Your Dog
Further, dogs can also visit Lake! The Parks Canada Shuttles, Moraine Lake Bus Company, and Roam Public Transit allow dogs if they’re in a small crate on your lap. Further, check with each company about their pet policies. Moreover, remember to keep dogs on a leash, as required by Parks Canada. Don’t forget to buy Parks Canada Pass.
