7 Amazing Places For Paddle Boarding In And Around Canmore

Paddle boarding is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy nature. When you don’t feel like hiking, the best way to spend time in summers is to head to the lakes. There are many amazing places in Canmore & Kananaskis to enjoy stand-up paddle board.

Here are our favorite paddle boarding locations in Canmore & Kananaskis…

Canmore Reservoir (Rundle Forebay)

Canmore Reservoir is one of the perfect places for paddle boarding in Canmore. It’s located only a five minutes drive from downtown Canmore. Calm waters & Ha Ling Peak and Mount Rundle makes this a great choice for families and beginners to stand up paddle board. Although there are numerous locations to go to SUP in nearby Kananaskis Country or Banff however, if you’re staying in Canmore this is most convenient due to close proximity to the downtown. The water here is generally warmer and less wind affected than other places in the Canadian Rockies.

Quarry Lake, Canmore

Quarry Lake with its mountainous background and year-around breathtaking scenery can be your perfect destination for paddle boarding. You can easily reach Quarry Lake from downtown Canmore. This place is easily accessible by bike from anywhere in Canmore. If you are going by car then this beautiful lake can be reached in less than five minutes from Downtown Canmore. This beautiful man made lake offers excellent opportunities to kayak and stand-up paddleboard. However, you won’t find any rental shops. Thus it’s best to carry your own non-motorized watercraft.

Gap Lake

While driving along Highway 1A you will come across a heaven- Gap Lake. While technically in Kananaskis, Gap Lake is just 10 km from Canmore and 6 km from Exshaw. This location is definitely an amazing spot for spending the day while connecting with nature.

Spray Lakes Reservoir

Spray Lakes Reservoir is situated a short drive from Canmore which offers picturesque mountain views. This pristine lake provides a true wilderness paddle boarding experience. The lake can get windy which can make paddle boarding challenging. However, it is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. You will be treated with breathtaking views all around. If you are looking for a perfect location to enjoy the raw beauty of nature this is the best location.

Goat Pond

Just before the Spray Lakes is located another great option for paddle boarding- Goat Pond. This true gem is far away from the crowds and is extremely beautiful. Moreover, it is not that windy so a paddle board is a perfect choice. Being surrounded by lush green forest it gives immense opportunities to watch wildlife.

Barrier Lake

Water babies can rejoice as Barrier Lake offers ample opportunities to enjoy its pristine water from up close. When the weather is normal and the water is calm, you can try out kayaking, paddle boarding and even canoeing.
