About the Wapta Falls Trail
With a height of 18 meter and width of 107 meter, the Wapta Falls is the widest waterfall on the Kicking Horse River. As you embark on the trail, you will be surrounded by thick forest on both sides. You will see the first glimpse of the waterfall after an elevation gain of 50 meters. Further, be ready to experience some magnificent viewpoints as you go closer to the waterfall. The trail will now slowly start descending for about 40 meters and reach a shallow yet rocky riverbed.
This region is extremely slippery and so it’s advisable to cling to the railing. Often hikers hop the rail for better shots. But this can be dangerous for you and also lead to trail erosion. From this point you will get even better views of the waterfall. Further, if you don’t mind getting a bit drenched from the spray oozing out of the waterfall, reach out to the mounds at the waterfall base. It’s better to have a waterproof jacket on as the water pressure is similar to standing underneath a shower with water pouring down at super-fast speed.
